Guest guest
Hi Mimi, I have a few questions. How long has Issac been taking periactin? Is he having a growth spurt? How much does Issac eat when he is not on periactin? I ask these questions for a couple of reasons. First, if Issac has only been on periactin for a short while, then he may have just gotten past the initial spike in appetite that sometimes occurs when you start periactin. If this is the case then it is best to keep him on it for several months. If he is having a growth spurt, kids sometimes eat alot just before they start a growth spurt. Again, if this is the case, then it best to kep him on the periactin. If he normally eats a little less then 3 oz, then this suggests that the periacin is working. Please keep in mind that once you get past the initial appetite spike, then many kids eat slightly more than without the periactin. It may not seem like much but over the long term it adds up. That is the intent of periactin (and growth hormone), to make a small difference over a long period of time. That is more benefical than a big diference in a short period of time. Last, I would wait and see. Stopping and starting periactin can be hard on a child. If none of these things are true, then you might want to consider stopping for a while. However, a week may not be long enough. This is just my opinion based on my experience with my son. It would probably be best to call your doctor and discuss it with her/him becasue every child reacts differntly to periactin ( or any medication for that matter). I hope this helps. Guest guest
Hey Ken- He has been on it for a month or so. He hasn't been weighed in a while so he may very well be going through a growth spurt. I really appreciate your input since I wasn't sure what to expect. I will continue the Peractin and see what happens. Thanks again!
