Hi-

This is my third day on the diet. My first two days I had some flu-like

symptoms - nausea and fever-like and weak. These problems were getting better

day today until after tried my first new food - 1/2 of a small banana. I also

felt this sort of sugar high hyper feeling and pains in my stomach after eating

the banana - which I've also noticed after drinking the white grape juice. I'm

thinking - is fruit sugar a problem for me? Or is it my body is going through

die-off and fruit sugar somehow making it worse? The other thing is, I've had

these pains since last night after eating salmon - which I figured bothered me

because it was too fatty. The weird thing is, it flared today when I had my

second glass of white grape juice (diluted) of the day, along with a bowl of

grape jelly. I want to continue to have the banana - I've sort of counted on

this to get me through the beginning stages of the diet to help me from losing

too much weight. Should I wait a couple more days before trying it? I was also

thinking of staying off the grape juice for a while as well...would apple cider

be a better choice?

Help!

Thank you,

Ellen

Some people are sensitive to carbs. It might be a good idea to use a lot of bone

broth soups and some well cooked veggies instead of the fruits and juices.

Juices should be diluted. I drank a lot of peppermint tea with a little honey in

it instead of juices. Hang in there!!

Ellen,

It sounds like you are having an awful lot of fruit juice, plus the

banana. Why don't you try just the banana and skip the fruit juice

and see how that works? Bananas are nice and bland and very filling

(for me, anyhow) so it's nice if you can get along with them.

Ellen, sugar was a major problem for me before and in the beginning of the diet.

I ate nothing sweet or honey for weeks and then in small amounts and worked my

way up. The only way I tolerated OJ or grape juice was in gelatin where I used

50% water, 50% juice. About 2 weeks into the diet, I could tolerate OJ diluted

100% with no problems. I used less and less water all the time. About a year

into the diet, I could tolerate it 50/50. Today, I can drink it 100% but don't

unless I'm in a crunch and have to get some from a convenient store.

I didn't eat bananas until a couple weeks into the diet to and then that was in

the form of banana pancakes. I was lucky and didn't lose a pound after going on

SCD. I ate tons of chicken soup, gelatin and eggs. I probably ate 6-8 boiled

eggs a day. I had C though and not D.

You are def having die off and the bugs are going crazy with the sugar. You

might want to cut back for a few more days or mix your bananas in with something

to cut the sugar rush.

Banana Pancakes

1 Egg

1 small very ripe banana

cinnamon/vanilla (if desired)

Melt butter in a non stick skillet over medium to medium low heat.

In a bowl, mash banana with a fork. Add egg and mix well. I usually put this

into a blender because I like it smooth.

This will make 3 - 4 small pancakes.

Pour batter into skillet and cook. They don't bubble like normal pancakes so you

have to watch them. It works better, the lower the temp you cook them on.

Flip when one side is brown and continue to cook until the other side is brown.

Topping

When you can tolerate cooked apples.

1 apples peeled, cored and sliced super thin

3-4 TBS butter

Cinnamon/Vanilla

1 TBS honey (if you tolerate it I used this without honey for the first few

weeks. if i'm out of honey, i omit it. it's good but not required.)

In a small non stick pot over medium heat add butter and honey (if using). When

melted, add 1 TSP of Cinnamon and vanilla and stir to combine. Add apples and

toss. When the apples start to bubble, put the lid on. Cook for 20 minutes,

stirring often. This on top of the banana pancakes is HEAVEN in your mouth. I

always start my apples and get them to the bubbling part. When I put the lid on,

I start my banana pancakes and they are done about the same time.

The pancakes with the apples on top would be a very substantial breakfast. At

the beginning of the diet, I doubled the pancakes but not the topping. Oh, and I

found that cooking the fruits made me tolerate them better. I tolerated them

cooked way before raw... even bananas.
