As the parents, you are entitled to call an IEP meeting any time you want one. > I want to express > two concerns: > > 1. that our son is either ready for a regular kindergarten class come > September, or goes to the ABA school again... if they believe a special ed > class may be best at that time I want to know why and follow through Perhaps you can just enroll him in the K-6 program as a regular student, and refuse any IEP, and see if he is okay in that environment. Or do you mean you think he is ready for regular K with an aide or other supports that would require an IEP? He is entitled to LRE, which is general ed population unless other circumstances warrant. > > 2. that our son be carefully monitored along with school staff and students > for a time so that great care is taken and he is not allowed to have food > off the GFCF diet.... should we first call his pediatrician and ask her for > a note stating that our son cannot have gluten or casein? the pediatrician > has been unwilling to discuss the diet with us, but in light of 's > progress I hope she will be willing to write such a note. I would try for the doctor note, because then you can require the school to implement gfcf precautions. Otherwise write it into an IEP. You should also provide for the school nurse, enzymes or whatever else you use, in case of infractions. You can also use test results you may have, as an indication that diet is required, if your doctor won't write the note. Congrats that a regular K program may be appropriate for your son!
