Guest guest
I routinely dilute my fruit juices by 300% to 500%; yes they’re mostly water but still taste good and, more importantly, don’t completely disrupt my digestion or my metabolism. Even after six years on SCD; it is just the way my body works now that I have a dysfunctional upper GI. When it comes to prune juice for constipation, another issue I deal with, there is no set limit – all depends on your body. I know I’ve had too much when my stools are much too loose and watery, so then I cut back. I’m also on Miralax, an osmotic laxative, and I use the same principles – I vary the dose depending on how loose my stools are. I want a general mushiness, so my limited digestive motility will still function, but I don’t want them too watery and verging on uncontrollable. I cut back for a few days, then things get too unmoving, so I increase the dose again. Sort of a cycle, all depending on how my nervous system is working. Similar concept when it comes to the electrolyte drink. You’ll know you’re having too much of it, or having it too often, when you notice an increase in heart rate. Too much electrolytes triggers the same symptoms as too little [sigh]. You want just enough to help you feel better, that your body is moving better, but not so much that you notice a heart rate increase or start to feel other symptoms associated with too low or too high electrolyte levels. Racing heart and increased blood pressure are the early warning signs for me when I’ve had too much; but then again, a racing heart also hits when my electrolytes are crashing [grin]. I also supplement magnesium as I’m deficient (mix in water before bed), and I know I have had too much when my heart rate increases suddenly when I’m not doing anything active. I skip a day, and for a few days cut back on the amount of magnesium I mix in water. I need a certain amount nearly every day, to avoid severe feet cramps, but my body’s needs fluctuate slightly, so I just pay attention to my body and adjust dosages. Sounds complicated, but it isn’t. I just have to pay attention to my body’s subtle signals along with the not-so-subtle ones. Kim M. SCD 6 years Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction 6+ years neurological & spinal deterioration 3+ years >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I'm cutting my juices 75% - 80% now and they are going down :) ….. How much prune juice should one drink for C? Also, I'm afraid to mess with orange juice because of the acidity, any thoughts? Also, is there a limit on how much electrolyte drink to take? Thanks!!
