Guest guest
Jodi, What is Questran exactly? And why do you take it when you are not at home? Does it tend to slow you down or settle your stomach or something? Mara > Any of you on questran while on SCD? > I take it from time to time when my fiber intake is up or when I am not at home. Guest guest
I started Questran a couple of months ago for bad D after having my gall bladder removed 1 year ago. I fought taking it for a year and tried all kinds of nutritional stuff. Everything thing I tried would work for a little while then stop working. I finally had a doc tell me that nothing I was going to do nutritionally was going to help me unless I stopped the constant bile dripping (from surgery). I know it's supposed to be a constipating med. It has NOT constipated me at all but it has stopped me from having D 10-20 times a day. It has helped a good deal w/stomach rumbling too (didn't take it away but has helped). I usually go 1-3 times in the morning and that's it. But, my daily BM is anywhere from perfect to mush...STILL! I started w/1 scoop a day and went up to 3 because I kept thinking more med should makie me more solid. Just recently I went back to 1-2 scoops a day because I think the more I took wasn't making a difference. I'm sill playing around w/this though so that's just my current thinking. Just curious - is the back surgery related to why you were prescribed questran?? I think you can take up to 4 scoops a day so you might want to try increasing it for a while. Guest guest
Mara, It is a medication prescribed for those of us that have had a resection and ileum and or small intestine has been removed. It binds the bile salts which is supposed to help with the runs or any kind of " shortened bowel " feeling. When I am not at home, I sometimes cannot eat the foods I am used to and have my normal routine so my stool is more watery (due to surgery) I try the best that I can through diet but there is so much I can do. Guest guest
Hi Marla, Thanks for the reply. I didn't have back surgery. I had an ileocolic resection (they removed about 2 feet in total including my terminal ileum and a small amount of small intestine) I had a lot of scar tissue and stricturing. Now, looking back it's one of the best decisions I ever made in my life besides starting the SCD and doing mind body work. I reckon I will have to play with the dosage a bit more. Thanks!
