Perhaps if someone is using the vest they will respond to your post. I don't know of anyone currently who does. The last person I knew that used the vest was Joyce Dalton. She passed away some time ago. I know that she found the vest very useful, however I'm not at all certain that it was this particular vest.

Hopefully someone will respond!

Beth,

Are there any members of Breathe-Support that are using or have tried the Hillrom Vest (Air clearance system).

If so I would like to know how productive the vest was.

I have one on a trial basis. If I want to keep it, I will need to purchase it with my own funds.

Joyce,

Yes it's a type of percussion vest. The idea is that by "percussing" the chest and back you are breaking up mucous lodged in the lungs and bronchial tubes making it possible to cough it up and out. It doesn't so much shake the lungs as it does thump your chest and back helping to break up the mucous.

Joyce,

Your ex is precisely the type of patient this thing is the most useful for. He can't move around much for himself and that makes it difficult to get the junk up and out of his chest. The vest helps make that happen.

YES, I use it for 30 minutes each day and I use my stationary bike(using both arms and legs) for 30 minutes each day. I think 40 min is the recommended amount. Burns
