Guest guest
I'm trying to get more info. The archives mentioned GAPS. I've never heard of it before. I'm familiar withpecanbread.com and the brain/gut autism connection, and their protocols. I tried to get info on gaps, there's like 200 msgs in the archives (too many to sort through I tried 20+ after going through 53 OCDs....), and I'm having real trouble parsing their website on no sleep. Any info anyone could give me would be great. I guess these means I should def not do cow dairy? can I do goat? Should I go throw out the DCCC?Put it in the freezer. They don't do dairy for like 6 months. I like these GAPS websites:http://www.gapsdiet.com/Getting_Started.htmlhttp://www.gapsdiet.com/INTRODUCTION_DIET.htmland here is the introduction diet:http://www.gapsdiet.com/INTRODUCTION_DIET.htmlCan anyone help me figure out if there is anything special I should be doing with my intro in light of my OCD and GAPS? or transitioning off intro? If I get my head together later some other day I'll take a gander at their website again, do they know what they are talking about? Can I trust what they say?yeah, they are good, knowledgeable people, some of whom used to post here. Should I get the book? yes - if this is your issue. Then you can read it and decide what you think. Any help would help. I'm highly questioning a lot of their different approach diversions because pecanbread isn't the same, but isn't pecanbread the autism / brain/gut experts?that's autism however. and aimed at kids. Look, it's a somewhat different approach - as we've all seen here, what worksfor one can be highly idiosyncratic - so you will have to test yourself out and seeif it works for you and ask them tough questions. Guest guest
hey Mara,Thank you SO MUCH for helping walk me through this. They should really put that " getting started " at the top of the web site, I was up to my ears in the outline and 'detox' section and then trying to read and parse and get through that 'introduction diet' page without a clue where they were coming from, it's so wordy it didn't work without the " getting started " to tip me off!! especially since I knew all the SCD stuff so I was trying to find the part I didn't know and ugh. Thank you.My first question: I checked out the probiotic they recommend. it has bifidus, and maltodextrin. I've unwittingly taken maltodextrin, it was one of the worst mistakes I've ever made. I'm seriously, seriously questioning these people. However, I read some stuff i didn't know and I learned a lot and I've got some good ideas of stuff I should be doing. Still, I'm very confused about conflicting recommendations. especially about fruit and nut integration. They seem to delay fruits a lot, and speed up nut butters. I'm wondering how SCDers resolve them? I guess maybe I should try making sauerkraut juice? is this necessary even though I'm taking acidophilous? They say to start this immediately, but I'm thinking from what I've seen SCD that raw vegetable juice is a little advanced? Thanks again!!p.s. oh, also about low stomach acidity. Since I've had ulcer problems in the past and now, I'm assuming I don't have that, right? thanks! I'm trying to get more info. The archives mentioned GAPS. I've never heard of it before. I've unwittingly taken maltodextrin, it was one of the worst mistakes I've ever made. I'm seriously, seriously questioning these people. Yeah - that's the one area that they differ from SCD - seems to help some people quite a lot, others not so much. If maltodextrin affects you that badly, don't use it. I know that some people have done GAPS, but stayed using SCD probiotics. Not sure about that - I imagine it works for some and not so much for others. > I guess maybe I should try making sauerkraut juice? is this necessary even though I'm taking acidophilous? Acidophilus doesn't implant when you are on the GAPS/SCDiet, because our low carb diet does not support it that way - whereas the probiotics in sauerkraut do. So, yeah, it can be very useful. I keep meaning to do that myself, just haven't managed yet. Last month's effort - bought two books with recipes and bought another cabbage (the first one just sat in my fridge until I finally threw it out.) > They say to start this immediately, but I'm thinking from what I've seen SCD that raw vegetable juice is a little advanced? Well, you could dilute it - but it is probiotic rich. If you try it, let us know how it works for you. > Thanks again!! > > > p.s. oh, also about low stomach acidity. Guest guest
Hi , First, let me say how sorry I am that you're feeling the tumultuous and sometimes very painful experience that is OCD. It is frightening and isolating, but you are not alone and there are a multitude of sufferers--and there IS help. In addition to trying food-based approaches to enhancing your overall health, have you considered consulting a therapist who specializes in OCD? The evidence shows that the most effective type of therapy for OCD is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with Exposure and Response Prevention, and I know medicine is also helpful for some. You have to choose what's right for you. My suggestion would be to try both traditional and non-traditional approaches to helping yourself heal. Please reach out for help as much as you can. I know mental health issues are so stigmatized, so it can be really hard. Best, CD 13 years SCD 3 years > > Hey everyone, > > Today I learned to search the archives! Guest guest
Thanks guys. Thanks Marilyn,I'm cutting my juices 75% - 80% now and they are going down :)Also, steamed zucchini went down better than carrots didn't feel as nourishing though now I have to go buy as much zucchini as I can carry tomorrow! I tried steaming some spinach though and that made me feel funny actually, I could pretty much tell it was a no as soon as I put it in my mouth :(How much prune juice should one drink for C? Also, I'm afraid to mess with orange juice because of the acidity, any thoughts? Also, is there a limit on how much electrolyte drink to take? Thanks!! Guest guest
Drink as much prune juice as you can tolerate. I make my own and drink 8 oz at a time. What I do is use 5 prunes per 1 cup of water. So, if I have 40 prunes I simmer those in 8 cups of water (lid on) for about 20 minutes and then blend until smooth. I drink 8 oz at a time in the morning on an empty stomach. Most days I'll have a BM and it's nice and easy to pass. For me, this is the easiest C method on my guts (no cramping) though, when I'm flaring even it doesn't work. The C protocol on the BTVC website didn't work for me. My body didn't like the concentrated OJ. I have always tolerated OJ well (though I cut it by 100% the first year). I have never had indigestion or anything like that though (except when I was pregnant). Hope this helps, Misty Kimble CD - no meds SCD - 2 years > > How much prune juice should one drink for C?
