Guest guest
My son had a flare up during xmas. We started SCD diet and for now, we have trophies which is a miracle. I discussed this with my Pediatric Gatstroenterologist today, and she went to the breakingthevisciouscycle site and had a look at the diet with me. She is very good and open minded. We love her. She mentioned that this diet advocates only simple carbs and to avoid complex carbs ie sucrose, as per bottom of the page http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/beginners_guide/the_science_behind_the_d\ iet2.htm but apples for example which my son have been eating, we found on the nutrition data site (link below) contains sucrose which is complex carb. http://www.nutritiondata.com/facts/fruits-and-fruit-juices/1810/2 So is this explained in the diet? Is there something I am missing in this complex world of biology and diet? Please help. john
Guest guest
I think there is a difference between table sugar -sucrose- and the sugars found in fruits bound to fiber and containing other nutrients.I'm not sure exactly. Guest guest
Hi ,I'm really glad you posted this because I didn't know nutrition data gave that kind of info. I look forward to using it in the future. As to your question, there is some more info on the BTVC website, check it out: http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/knowledge_base/kb/sucrose_in_bananas_carrots.htmIt seems that even though some fruits have some sucrose, evidence shows that most people with GI issues are able deal with it alright. ~ My son had a flare up during xmas. Guest guest
Thanks for replying. I re-read the book again, and Elaine mentions " predominantly monosacharides " . Emphasizing the word Predominatly. So it sounds it is very hard to find pure monosacharide foods, so a smallest amount is better. I am on a missing to refine it for my family because it's been so good for us. Let me know what you think of following 1. Pick foods with the highest mono-sacharides content and lowest complex carbs. 2. Pick foods with proven anti-inflammotory properties. My GI said she was impressed with result. She mentioned it's like trying an elemental diet which has been proven to help Crohns remission. However I dont understand why doctors don't try an elemental diet without corn syryp and the like, much like the SCD. Are they blind? > > > > > > > My son had a flare up during xmas. Guest guest
However I dont understand why doctors don't try an elemental diet without corn syryp and the like, much like the SCD. Are they blind? Lol =) I think it probably just has to do with how they're taught. Probably a big influence from big pHARMa and the like. And nobody can patent fresh produce, meats, and eggs, but they can patent a corn syrup elemental diet and make money off it. But yes, I think they are blind too, or just really thickheaded. Though, us SCDers can be pretty thickheaded in our own right =) Cheers!Alyssa 16 yo UC April 2008, dx Sept 2008SCD June 2009 (restarted)Azathioprine 75 mg 1x per dayPrednisone 22.5 mg 1x per day
