Don't know what to tell you about how much juice, I would not worry about it so much. It just causes more stress in your life Juice whatever you think you can tolerate. and however much juice comes out is how much you should start off with Avocado's are high in calories because they have so much fat in them, not sugar. Anything with a high fat content will be high in calories from the fat but lowin carbs from lack of sugar content. Sorry but Avocado is the only thing I know of like that that's SCD legal. What about Cabbage juice? That's good for you an it's natural anti-inflammatory. Heals ulcers too!Carrots are very high in sugar, if you haven't juiced them you'll find that out pretty quick after trying to drink the stuff. They are a great anti-fungal though I don't know exactly what the reason is. I do know that some medical practices use raw carrot/garlic juice as a way of fighting off yeast in people. So, it's gotta be good and strong. I drank about 4 carrots worth of juice with however many cloves of garlic added in there that I could handle (usually 2) for a week straight. My whole body smelled like garlic! My bed sheets, my clothes, everything. I guess there are worse things to smell like, but it was coming out of my pores I guess and was strong, so be careful about that. It did help though :)I juiced cabbage juice for a while and never had any reactions to it so i'm not sure about the die off.-UC - 1+ yearsSCD - 11 months 100% strict and 4 months restricted diet.Colazol - 9 pills a day Prednisone 25mg entocort With vit E mixed inBack to intro/stage 1 for now.To: BTVC-SCD From: martinoellen73@...Date: Sun, 16 May 2010 23:07:09 +0000Subject: questions on juicing Hi, I am considering juicing to add some vegetable power to my smoothies and reduce the sugar content. (i've been on the diet for a month). I know these juices are pretty intense, how much do you think is good to start with - maybe 1 oz or so? Also, I'm limiting my intake of avocados and bananas and am worried about calorie intake...are there any high-calorie, low-carb vegetables or fruits that would be good in juicing form or otherwise? Haha, now that I read that again, it doesn't seem possible - low carb, high calorie...avocados are an anomaly i suppose and I guess they're medium carb..but maybe some exotic fruits/veggies that I've never heard of? Mostly, I'm excited to use spinach b/c it has good protein and i've tolerated it well in pureed form. If you could recommend any other veggies that are relatively low carb that I could juice for smoothies, that would be great. I also am confused about carrot juice - with its high sugar content, is it really helpful for controlling yeast? I suppose if you only use it once or twice a week in small amounts, its benefits would outweigh its problems? Oh and one more question - cabbage juice, is it more or less intense than probiotic supplements in causing die-off reactions? Thanks for reading, Ellen The New Busy is not the old busy. Guest guest
I love my power juicer. I got it a long time ago and it's still going strong. I've had other juicers from Wal Mart and places like that and the output was always so wet, I would juice it more than once. With the power juicer I don't have too. Fruit output is a little wet but veggie output is almost totally dry. Misty Kimble CD - no meds SCD - 2 + years > > I apologize if this isn't the right place to ask this, but does anyone have a juicer that they aren't using anymore? Or any recommendations for a juicer that works well, ie produces a lot of juice and can juice a variety of fruits and vegetables, but is on the cheap side...under $100. Advice is much appreciated! How is the Jack Lalanne power juicer? I was going to buy it used from craigslist, but now i'm thinking that isn't the best idea.
Guest guest
Thanks for the input! Good to know about the celery and cabbage. I think first I'm gonna try to add a little juice to morning smoothies and go from there. My main reason for doing it is to help detoxify my body...the brain fog and flu symptoms can get pretty intense....and also to get all the nutrients from the raw veggies and fruits. You know, well cooking veggies kind of ruins the goodness of it. I've been freezing cooked spinach and adding it in ice cubes..not sure if juicing spinach will be more or less time consuming, but I think it has more enzymes at least. Hopefully i can tolerate more variety of veggies this way. Thanks for sharing your experience. I bit the bullet and bought a $100 juicer...10 year warantee is the main reason I got it. ~Ellen > > > Our resident juicer is Alyssa (for some reason she found this out > > early). Guest guest
I have an Omega 8005 Masticating Juicer. So instead of spinning really fast, this little 'tooth' slowly chews the food for me. It's got a 1.5 Hp motor, so it's plenty strong, but it only turns at 83rpm. Some say that the spinning juicers destroy the vital nutrients and delicate enzymes, but I don't know if I believe that. I think oxygen is the biggest enemy. But i love this juicer and I'll tell you why (Champion is very similar). Fairly easy to clean (must be hand washed, but two minutes tops), and extremely versatile. I had run out of almond flour yesterday, but wanted some cheddar crackers. I took some slivered almonds from the freezer, put them through the juicer with the no-holes tube, and it pushed out beautiful fine almond flour. It will also mince meat for you, cooked or raw, so I'm thinking baby food soon, since we know it will do veggies and fruit. It does leafy greens and grasses as well. I've tried pasta before with little success, but now on SCD, guess I don't have to worry about that. Also coffee beans, etc. It is about twice as expensive as a centrifugal (spinner) juicer, but it came with 7-year warranty and free shipping, i think from Mercola.com. Anyways, that's my two cents, but it won't cost ya. jonathan > > Thanks for the input! Good to know about the celery and cabbage. Guest guest
jonathon- thanks for the advice, I wish I hadn't gone ahead and bought a centrifical juicer (which i think is worse with destroying the nutrients), aparently it also has difficulties with leafy vegetables, great! well, i'll have to decide whether to send it back or not. I got free shipping too, so no worries I guess..I just don't know if I can spend $200 + on a juicer. I want to use it primarily for vegetables so I don't think the centrifical ones do a great job. The Omega sounds so great, I think you've definitely got the best one out there! thanks again, Ellen I have an Omega 8005 Masticating Juicer.
