Mia was drinking a large amount of water over the past week (she was

constantly wanting my water and then would drink the whole bottle) and

her diaper has leaked into her crib for the past 2 days. I called her

pediatrician and he had her come in today. Her blood sugar level was

checked by a finger prick and was 156. They did a urine test and

there was no sugar in her urine. I am going back tomorrow morning for

a fasting level. (Mia had pears this morning about 1-2 hours before

her test.) My friends daughter has diabetes so she came over and

tested Mia just now (she hadn't eaten in about 3 hours) and it was

79. Should I be concerned?

Her ped said if the test is normal then there is nothing to worry

about. Thanks for listening!

Hi nne

Dr H likes our kids' BSLs to be between 80-120. The 156 reading from this

morning was a little high, but that could easily be explained by the pears.

Fruit carries a lot of natural sugars.

And 79 is on the low side of the scale, but not dangerously so. What you

need to find out is if you can get a glucometer (BS tester)?? Would your

insurance pay for one, on the basis of possible hypoglycemia?? The tester

aren't all that expensive, but the little test strips could bankrupt you!

You could test her sugars several times a day, and see what her levels look

like over something like a week.

I would wait and see what the Dr thinks in the morning. I hope everything

goes well!

Hugs for you both!
