Guest guest
> Hi everyone, > > I thought I'd introduce myself since I'm new to the list. > > I'm , a graduate student (done in June - whew!) Congrat in advance!! > I've had loose stools/chronic D for 2.5 years and was diagnosed with lymphocytic (or microscopic) colitis in March. I know it's not one of the typical problems most people on SCD have, but the folks over at the microscopic colitis forums are mostly just trying gluten free diets. Based on my research and BTVC, the gluten-free thing just doesn't make sense to me. I even tried it for a month or so and felt so bloated on rice; corn on the cob sent me into a flare. So I nixed that and am trying SCD. (I've tried it before strictly for a month, but that was prior to my colonoscopy/diagnosis, so I stopped after getting very weak/exhausted. But I DID notice that at the end of the month, my face was clear and I didn't need deodorant.) > > I just started SCD a week ago (5/2). I was feeling very foggy and bloated all the time, then two nights ago all the sudden the bloating went away and my mind cleared up. Is this typical in the beginning? Yeah - that's typical die off. In the beginning of the diet, there's a lot of gut instability as things in your gut begin to change radically. > > I still don't have that bloated feeling, but now I'm just starving all the time. (I'm 5'6 " and about 105 lbs. Normal for me is about 115-118 lbs.) Eat a lot of small meals. Eat all the time if you have to. This, btw, is completely normal. > Right now I'm at pecanbread.com's Stage 1, but with less fruit (I found juice makes me really gassy at the moment -- though it could be the juice I *thought* was 100% apple is actually now. Apple juice, with one exception, is no good. You need cloudy apple cider - or if you have a juicer, your own. > Will stick to Welch's grape juice when I do reintroduce it.) How long is it okay to go without fruit? I don't think there is a limit. You need some carbs - but you can get those from veggies, too. > I did have a spotty banana yesterday and it not only took away a headache, but tasted amazing. This coming from a girl who used to hate bananas, haha! However, the one I ate today made my belly grumbly. Yes, it can drive you batty but the same food can produce different symptoms depending on the SOP of your gut. Or too much or a thing, or too little, etc. > > My energy is still pretty low. When should it pick back up? That is idiosyncratic - and depends on how bad your symptoms are, and the state of your illness, the various pathogenic bacteria you have, etc. In short order, we have no way of knowing in advance. > Is the electrolyte drink at http://www.scdrecipe.com/recipes/r_019_00452.php okay to drink at this point? Yes. > Any suggestions for ways to get more calories? avocados, yogurt from half and half or cream. cheese. mayonnaise on everything. Coconut oil. Steak. Hamburgers or cheeseburgers. Bacon. Etc. Add other fattening things when you can tolerate them. > I made cow's milk yogurt cheese and had a couple teaspoons last night. I seemed okay with that... as far as stomach grumbling and gas go. How long did it take for you all to get to normal BMs? It varies for every one - your experience is going to be unique. Does anyone live in the Los Angeles area, and know of a place to get sugar-free bacon? Even the uncured, nitrate free bacon at Trader Joe's has added sugars on the ingredients list. Thank you! Microscopic (Ulcerative) Colitis 2+ years SCD 5/2/10 Entocort 9mg/day (since 3/10)

Guest guest
Hi , If you have a Costco membership they have low-sodium bacon that has no sugar added. FYI, and for some encouragement, I also have lymphocytic microscopic colitis. I was diagnosed in 2006 and went the gluten free route then. It worked really well for me for 4 years, but a flare that started last December just would not go away and back to the gastro I went. I discovered SCD in February of this year and initially had really great success. After about a month I had a flare start that really hasn't gone away and I ended up taking 9 mg of Entocort a day, as you are. Hang in there, Pegi > > > > > > Any suggestions for ways to get more calories? > > > > avocados, yogurt from half and half or cream. cheese. > > mayonnaise on everything. Coconut oil. Guest guest
Walmart at Crenshaw and King used to have Gwaltney's suger free and low sodium bacon but tried 1 year ago and they didn't. It always suprised me that Whole Foods does not (the Farmer's Market area). Ron
