Guest guest
Hi , Over this last Mother's Day, both , RSS and Aidan, non-RSS, caught the same bug. The bug put in the hospital for the entire weekend, not unusual for because he's g-tube fed, and severely hypo-g, so if he cannot tolerate feeds (vomiting) then he has to be admitted and placed on a D10 IV to maintain his BS. Aidan, on the other hand, has none of those problems, but this bug hit her hard. She ended up in the ER, on an IV for rehydration (her first time ever in the ER, and her first ever IV) We were told that we needed to bring her in ANY time she is vomiting and does not pee at least once in an 8 hour time frame (with the obvious except of overnight when she's sleeping). I definitely think taking your daughter to the ER this morning is a good idea! If her BS is low, I would have her placed on a D10 IV, have her BS checked hourly, and have her checked for ketones. When they first place her on the D10, don't be surprised if her BS spikes up, just give it a little time, and her body will adjust from the sudden intake of glucose, but don't allow them to remove the D10. They always want to move down to a D5 when this spike occurs, but D5 won't hold his BS in the 80-120 range, and he will throw ketones consistently on the D5. Hope this helps. Hugs for you both!
