Well, I just called Dr. Hess' office to see if they still had the Dec. 18th date

open, cause things are so slow now at work, I am thinking they will be glad to

give me 2 mos off now......anyway, I called, had to call back 1 hour later, and

she was a little upset with me (said " I still haven't had time to check yet,

CArole " ), then she let me hang on while she checked. She said they still had

the date and am I sure I want it, I said, yes, as long as I am sure I will have

Dr. Hess because one patient this week wanted Dr. Hess and got Dr. Oakley

instead and she acted like she didn't know what I was talking about.....so I

said " " and she said " I'm not going to talk to you about another patient,

Carole, thats not exactly true. " so I got a tounge-lashing from her.

I think it was ok for me to ask to be sure, since what went thru and I

understand her not wanting to talk about another patient, with the laws and all,

but is the one I heard it from, here on this very list.

So what do you think about that conversation?

I think you experienced the one person at Dr. Hess's office that can be very

short at times. I talked to her on two occassions prior to my surgery and

she was quite short with me. I stayed sweet and she came around, but the

reality is that if you catch her at a bad moment---watch out!

just goes to show that there is a sour grape in every

bunch. Typical for most Dr.s offices.

I wouldn't take it personally.

What my husband does when he runs into someone like

this he say something like thank you Sunshine and you

have a nice day to.

Ya, she IS a little cranky today, isn't she? I guess you must have

stirred her up, cause when I called this afternoon, she was a trifle

bit snippy with me as well...

Thanks ALOT! ;)

But, as long as the Doc measures twice and cuts once, I can put up

with a lot.

I am tentatively scheduled for January 16th, with Dr. Hess. I met

with Dr. Oakley, and if the Hessmeister wasn't so legendary, I'd have

no problem going with him...

When I was there, I mentioned to him that I wasn't sure who I wanted

to do the actual surgery. He seemed a bit wistfull, but not

surprised and said it was absolutely my decision. I feel bad for

him, but I just can't help it. Hess has done over a thousand of

these, Oakley has done around 70. Admittedly, Oakley has been a

general surgeon for ages and if you've seen one small bowel, you've

seen 'em all, but I just can't help wanting the most experienced set

of hands riffling through my innards.

I was explaining it all to my wife and she wanted to know how they

measured the length of the bowels accurately. I painted her this

graphic picture of curtain hooks with loops of bowel hung all over

the walls of the surgical suite...nurses runnning around with

yardsticks, etc. She almost bought it.

Dear Carole,

Sounds like you have just experienced the " Nurse Ratchet " of the

office. I had my surgery back in April and I have dealt with " Miss

Sunshine " several times since. Like someone else said, she can be

VERY SHORT. Not a very professional behavior, but a human one,

nonetheless. I have also experienced her on a good day and in her

defense...she can be very caring and knowledgeable. I have often

wondered if Dr. Hess might not be ahead to invest a little money in

his office and find a place that could more readily accomodate his

practice. Not to mention a computer for his office staff and perhaps

a receptionist and perhaps a phone nurse to take some of the stress

off of the gals in the office. I have sat in the waiting room for

hours at times and the phone rings endlessly. It has got to be

maddening. Like others have said...nothing can beat the skills of

the doctor but I would wish for future patients a little updating in

the office. Regardless, I would do it again...with no one but Hess.
