Insurance Denial

Hi all,

I don't know how to crosspost, so if you received this on Dr. B's

list, hit delete and move on or...offer some advice. Sorry for the

inconvenience.

I am so absolutely disgusted with ChampVA I could scream! After

numerous phone calls and being told this surgery was covered, I

received official denial of this because the BDP/DS is considered to

be experimental. And to add insult to injury, they will pay for the

RNY and, there is NO appeal process because it is the government. I

will not have the RNY. UGHHHHHHH!

So, in my determination to have the BDP/DS, I am going to Spain and

self-pay. I really was hoping to have part of this covered by

insurance, but that doesn't seem to be in the cards for me. My

quality of life is at stake. My biggest fear of going to Spain

without insurance coverage is how to handle possible complications.

I guess if something occurs my insurance company won't know I had

the surgery if coded correctly, maybe they'll pay. Any ideas?

I emailed Dr. B and will wait for his reply as to the date. I'm

hoping for December 4 or 5 and I'll return as soon as he says OK. My

oldest daughter will go with me.

I will need all your advice (and, yes, I'll search archives) on what

to pack and other tips.

ALL advice welcome. Thanks for listening. I've learned a lot from

all of you...especially that I WON'T HAVE THE RNY even if they will

pay for it!
