As a sweet resort, there are viactiv.. I got them because early postop I just could not swallow pills.. but I hated chewables so badly I was really glad to get my pill taking " skills " back. If you try the Cal-Apatite, Dr. Welker tells his patients to take 3 a day. I take a combo.. 1000 in citracal (2 doses of 2 pills) and 2 cal-apatite.. because my mom's ortho doc said she should take both kinds. I take them when I get up, at midday, & before bed. Takes getting used to, but its not bad. http://www.randallnutritioncenter.com/rcnc2000/calapatite1000.html I do take allergy A & D, and a dry form of E. There IS a dry form of vit. K available, but I don't remember where I saw it.. here's the link for the dry E & allergy A & D: http://www.advnut.com/twinalpha5.htm > > I also need a good daily vitamin. The prenatals I am on are mostly iron, folic acid, & b12, so I don't think you'd need the iron.. at least not 2x/day like I take it. My personal goal is to find a multivite that is smaller than my calcium pills.. I see them in the hospital, but haven't found any yet. I'm thinking perhaps one a day brand used to be small? I currently take a generic form of Centrum. I get them at Sam's. > > I am peri menopausal, so do I need iron? I lived on maalox quick-dissolves early postop.. they helped w/heartburn (but prevacid worked muuch better) and they are calcium. I have heard some folks did well w/pepcid complete, but it made me hurl.. so I have a full bottle minus 1 dose, lol. Pepto may be a no-no until you're ~6 weeks postop because of the aspirin.. check w/your doc!!! I had to wait 3 months before I could take anything but liquid tylenol for headaches (blech). > > Do any of you find that ordering online is a better way to go then > shopping at healh food/drug stores? Guest guest
Hi Theresa, If you have trouble with large calcium pills, try one of the chewable calcium " candies. " Dr. K even puts a sample packet of them in the binder you get from Dee when you go for your consult. Godspeed with your surgery and may your recovery be uncomplicated and uneventful. We look forward to reading your comments from " the other side! " Not until you are well rested, though. Blessings, Sue Everett > Advice please....(yeah...again!) > > I am going on a shopping expedition to have all my supplements for at > least one month post op. > > I know I need between 1600-2000 mg of calcium. Guest guest
Sue, Thanks so much. I will buy a small box of the viactives also, just in case. Thanks so much for your kind words! I will check in when I get home! Guest guest
Thanks from me too, Liane Judie, et al, I have assembled an array of vites for right after surgery, chewable and liquid, kids vits that I think are OK tasting, (but who knows what I will think post op?, viactives and I'm getting the adeks so that should cover for a while, I think. Also instead of protien powder I've gotten dehydrated egg whites, which I can mix in almost anything and it doesn't hurt them to get hot, or I can always make meringue if I don't like em!!! Guest guest
Judie, The egg whites are pure protein!!! and you can add them in anything cold or hot or warm and it won't hurt them just like a real egg. They will blend right in a juice or a soup or mashed potatoes or any thing! And no sugar so I can use my stevia, or have it in something savory, like soup. The vits are natural, Schiff liquid that tastes like OJ, really fresh Not candied, and a natural chewable that are really good too, and they look like animals!!! I am a wild woman right now, not packed,(we leave on Thursday) still making a robe, ahouse total chaos, and I just found out that my oldest daughter is having problems with one of the steel rods in her back, Scoliosis surgery, 21 years ago. One of them has broken in the past but now she is in horrible pain for two days and can't see her doc till Tues. She had a two yo to manage!!!! love, Kathy sen BMI 58, 352.5 lbs Surgery scheduled Nov 19th Dr. Welker " The only thing different in sinners and saints.... is one is forgiven and the other one ain't! I'm very concerned for her, she has three rods and one of them broke into several pieces long ago and is now imbedded in bone that has grown around it. This this is a new wrinkle. She was rear-ended a year ago by a fellow (with no insurance) and had pain but nothing showed up in X-rays then....... > Can you believe just how fast things are moving for you now with the > surgery? Yes it's so amazing, for such a long dark time all I have been able to focus on was sadness and death, with my Dad, Grandfather, Grandmother, two Great aunts and a Great uncle all dying in one and a half years. And this whole WLS process dragged on and on....... Now that God has moved, it is like I am standing and just watching every thing speed along! I can hardly keep my balance. that is why Psalm 126 has meant so much to me right now: Psalm 126 A Song of degrees. 1 When the LORD turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream. 2 Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The LORD hath done great things for them. 3 The LORD hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad. 4 Turn again our captivity, O LORD, as the streams in the south. 5 They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. 6 He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him. > Im so excited for you and I wish I could be there for you.
