I don't have any sunflower on hand to tell you if what I used was unrefined. But I have done a mix of sunflower and expeller pressed coconut oils, and the mayo was very tasty. Keep in mind that the very process of extracting oil in " refining " in the most technical sense of the word. What you're looking for is oil which is extracted without chemical processing. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle

So it doesn't necessarily make too much difference healthwise if an oil is virgin or not, since that's just if it was the first or second or etc... round of oil pressed out of whatever. I just have to make sure it's extracted without heat and chemicals and not further heated or chemically treated after it's extracted. Guest guest
Hi Alyssa, I read this a while ago and thought I would forward you the link: http://scdgirl.blogspot.com/2009/12/omega-6-fats.html Since reading this I have tossed out bottles of sunflower oil (which I thought tasted best in mayo btw) and safflower oil. Kaitlyn does not eat mayo anymore so I don't need to make it for now ;-) I wonder how the refined coconut oil would taste!? I have been using butter and coconut oil only lately when making her eggs and pancakes. Have a super day! - > > I'm thinking that of the mild tasting oils, sunflower might be the > lesser of all the evils.
