Hey friends, I got a call today from the Methodist hospital in Houston, they told me that they have talked with my insurance carrier and they were told that I would get only $100,000 from them for my transplant, the hospital requires a deposit of at least $250,000 just to begin doing the evaluation.

As you can see I am very sad. If i dont have money they are just going to let me die.

I have alredy sent am email to Gift of life, I am waiting on a reply, I checked the Transplant Fund website but it says there that I have to be already working with the hospital to get enroll in a fundraising. The hospital wants to see the MONEY first!

Anyway i will call Transplant fund tomorrow during office hours and find out if what i read is correct.

I am really sad. I feel like this is pretty much it. I may have to just stop kicking and give myself up. I know God has plans for me, I am not ready to accept them. I wish there was a way for me to fee better. I will try to find a way to get my transplant but honestly I dont

think it is possible.

Please don't give up. I know this is a blow and it feels impossible but please don't just give up. Call the hospital and ask to speak with a social worker. You are not the first nor the only person facing difficulties with insurance. Medicare will pay for lung transplant, Medicaid will pay for lung transplant, there may yet be a way to get your insurance to pay an appropriate amount. Does your hospital have a financial hardship program? I've received help in the past from Duke's program.

I know it's easier to email and ask questions but I think you need to get on the phone and call Gift of Life, call the Transplant Fund, call your insurance. Your insurance definitely has an appeals process, they have to. You need to start being a thorn in their side, don't be afraid to be a pest. I know it's difficult and discouraging but this is not the time to just take no for an answer. Your life is at stake!

Please know that I'm praying for you!

,Can you get Medicare as your primaary insurance? Have you filed for SSDI? Just a thoughtKathySubject: Re: no money, no transplantTo: Breathe-Support Date: Wednesday, October 28, 2009, 9:10 PM

Yes, I am praying for you also. There has to be a way. What about Medicaid. I am on state assistance and they are paying for the whole transplant. I had no insurance when I moved to CA and I went to the ER. They admitted me and the hospital helped me apply for Medi-cal. When I was in the WA the same thing happened. I know you have insurance but it is worth looking into if you havnt already. I am so sorry this is happening to you.

Unfortunately it is very dificult for me to get coverage.

I am not a USA citizen. But I do have a green card.

My sons and I came to this country on january of 2006, by then i didnt know about my illness. We came here because my husband thought that our autistic son would have better education here that what they were giving him in Mexico. He decided it was time to get married and do things right. Well, we were wrong, our son still lost in his autism.

My husband is a citizen, he was born is South Dakota, we were living in Mexico for about 10 years without being married. Our two sons were born in Mexico, they both have Consular Birth Certificates, they are American Citizens.

Because I have not been in this country for at least five years Medicare would not even consider to give me coverage. My husband is retired, yes, he is about 20 years older than i am.

I will continue looking for help, but honestly, I dont think i could get help.

When i was diagnosed with PF I told my husband I wanted to go back to my country, but he wouldnt let me go, he kept telling me that here i would get the help i need it.

To me it was simple, if you are sick, go back to your people, they will help you. But he insisted that I had to stay here. Now I feel like I shouldnt have listen to him. I should have just take my sons and go back. Maybe by now I would in their transplant list.

Anyway, thanks friends. keep me in your prayers, as I will keep all of you in mine.

I wish you all very good luck.

Where do you live? It seems so wrong that you have done things right

and are having such a hard time! The reason I ask because they have a

place called the Southwest Center for Autism in Phoenix that does a lot

of good work with autistics. And of course we are close to Mexico if

you need to go back. Have you talked to the Mexican consulate? Maybe

they could help you get the care you need here? Its worth a shot, all

they can say is no. Keep working on it, prayers to you and your family.

I agree with everything Beth has said. Please keep trying to get some answers. My mother always said the "squeeky wheel gets oiled". So continue to be a pest, pray and the prayers from this group hopefully will end in good results.

Best wishes,

AB

I'm also wondering where you live. I've just started researching Medi-Cal

(Calif. Medicaid) for myself & came across this passage. " Immigrants who meet

all immigration requirements may get FULL Medi-Cal benefits. "

Medi-Cal DOES pay for lung transplants.

If you're not in Calif., check out your state's version of Medicaid. And I agree

that you shouldn't take no for an answer from anyone.
