I asked, and Risa granted, permission to re-post to DS, as folks

there have been discussing hair loss, and this message seemed

insightful. --Steve

I hope the following info will be helpful to those now concerned with

hair loss. I had previously posted it about 8 months ago. Two

excellent hair stabilizer supplements that I have used and know

several others who have are Biotin and Shen Min. The TwinLab Biotin

(100 mcg) is a VERY small pill. You should not take much more than

this if you already take a multi-vitamin with Biotin in it such as

Theragran-M.

The other supplement, Shen Min, is a Chinese herb. I use the Biotech

brand and take 2 per day. It can be expensive (about $30.00 per

bottle at GNC) but other online sources carry it also.

I found out about both of these at the recommendation of my

hairstylist who found out about them from a postnatal client who was

experiencing severe hair loss and working with a nutritionist. I

started taking them at about 6 months out (I'm now over 3 years out)

and still do. My hair showed new growth at the scalp, according to my

hairstylist, within about 6 weeks and made a huge turnaround at about

1 year out. So, I don't know how much to contribute to getting more

nutrition in or to taking the supplements, but I'm doing both!!!! It

is only in the last 6 months, that I really feel both the texture

(not-so-dry) and thickness of my hair has returned to its pre-op

state, so be patient. Hope the info is helpful.
