Re: Federal Insurance for BPD/DS

Thanks for the info. I know for sure that RNY proximal is covered, but when

I called BC/BS Fed. they would not answer my direct question -- will they

pay for BPD/DS? Instead, they directed me to a section that covers their

policy saying the BPDDS is investigational/experimental and considered an

exclusion. I asked if exceptions were made -- no answer.

I just don't want to get into a situation where I have the surgery and they

BCBS Fed. won't pay. That's why I need to know if anyone besides the

gentltmen in NC has been approved for BPDDS, and if so, was your BMI below

50?

Thanks for your response. I'm a little concerned about switching insrances

since I already have a preexisting condition -- heart attack. But, I really

want the BPDDS surgery rather than the RNY, so anybody else who can help ==

I'd appreciate it.

Thanks every so much,

Siri.

Bright Blessings:

Mailhandlers will pay for the BPD/DS, that's who I had and still carry

GEHA will also pay.

It's almost open season, and time to change insurances or check the changes

in coverage on the one you are carrying.

If you know who your surgeon is going to be, call them and ask them what

insurance is covering their procedure. That's what I did before I switched

to Mailhandlers. Once you find the right insurance, get the highest

covereage that they have so you have lots less co-pays and deductables. I

like Mailhandlers except w/the family low option, I have to hit $600.00 in

deductables before they pay for a thing, including prescriptions. But, I

have Champus as secondary and get " free " medication at the local Naval Clinic

in Port Hueneme.

So, check out all the new booklets, they should be available in mid-November.
