Guest guest
Beth, These kind of plateaus are normal. To loose 24lbs in 24 days is astounding, espcially given your low BMI. The ideal BMI is about 22.5 which corresponds to 127 lbs for a person of your height. Therfore you had exactly 100 lbs excess weight at the time of your surgery. You can expect to loose a total of 70-80 lbs. Now in the first 3 months, given your low BMI, you would expect to loose 35% of your excess weight. Therefore, you would expect to loose 35 lbs in the first 90 days. You have lost 24 lbs in only 24 days. That leavs you with only 11 more pounds in 66 days to hit the target. In other words, you are loosing too fast, not too slow! Hull > Hi guys. It's been 24 days since my surgery, and I haven't lost anything in 1 week. So far, I'm down 24 lbs. I called my surgeon's office and the nutritionist said to write down what I'm eating and she'll tell me what I'm doing wrong. I'm eating very little sugar, and I'm getting in about 60 gms. of protein (at least over the last few days). I've still got issues with gas but that's getting better with acidophollis and activated charcoal. Should I start excercising, or is it too early? Should I be concerned about slow weight loss at this point? I'm 5'3 " , was 227 at the time of surgery (BMI 40). I had lost about 30 lbs. prior to surgery. I'm probably worrying over nothing, but...any words of wisdom? Thanks, Beth > > > --------------------------------- >

Guest guest
Beth, I remember hitting a short plateau around the same time. It lasted for about 10 days. For me it was caused by not being able to have a BM. I used Milk of Magnesia and that solved my problem. I had already tried a donut, but it didn't work that time. You may want to eat something that is high in fat to kick-start things again. All in all, you have lost a lot so far and you are doing great! Kathy M. Guest guest
Thanks Judie, Kathy and ! I've definately got to relax about this, your words make me feel so much better! BTW Kathy, I HAVE been constipated over the last few days, I've been using suppositories, with pretty good effect, but I'll try M.O.M. Thanks, Beth ---------------------------------
Guest guest
Beth, You're doing fine. My bmi was 40 when I started 5-1/2 weeks ago. At 4 weeks post-op I had only lost 21 lbs and 18 of those pounds were lost in the first 2 weeks. I only lost 3 pounds total in the 3rd and 4th week. Your body just has to catch up. Rest assured, the weight will continue to drop off. I'm now at 5-1/2 weeks post-op and have lost a total of 28 lbs. It's slow, but it's coming off. Don't be so concerned with the scale. Take your measurements and weigh yourself once a week. You will be amazed at how the inches are melting off--even if the scale doesn't move much at first. Best wishes, Hi guys.
