J Welker: Eugene, OR

OK, Dr. Welker is not in California, but he is fairly close!

Completed about 109 DS surgeries since 1998.

" I currently perform both open and laparoscopic techniques and

utilize a staged procedure for some of the super morbidly obese for

safety concerns. The lap surgery is fully laparoscopic with hand sewn

double layer anastomosis. My laparoscopic practice of DS began in the

fall of 2000. "

Less experience than Anthone or Rabkin, about comparable to Keshishian

Good reputation for bedside manner

Accepts several insurance companies including Blue Cross/Blue Shield,

Cigna, Aetna, PacificSource and PacifiCare, Medicare, Providence, US

Healthcare, ODS. $2000 program fee for all new patients (not covered

by insurance).

" The office can be contacted at for appointments and

informational packets. My extension is 105. My current email address

is kjwelker@.... A Life-Lyte web site is under construction.

The office address is: 655 East 11th Ave., Suite #8, Eugene, OR.

Current support groups meet in Eugene, Medford, Salem and the

Portland area. Others are planned for Seattle and Boise, Idaho. "

Actually, Dr. K has performed about 50% more surgeries than Dr. W, but Dr. K

doesn't like to do it lap. Program fee is the same, and Dr. K is working to

become contracted with more insurance companies...good for Dr. W for being

contracted with so many!

Hi Alyssa,

Thanks for the info on Dr. Welker. I plan to put a call in to his

office on Monday morning and see what I can find out. I love Dr. K

and go to his support meetings, but have been frustrated with my

insurance problems and want to get Dr. Welker's take on it all. I

understand he is pretty aggressive helping patients get their

approvals. We'll see.

Blessings,

Sue Everett
