Guest guest
Hey :)I can in no way shape or form tell you what caused your illness. Question though: you said your diet is low in 'bad stuff', high in fruits/veggies. Are you getting enough b12? Do you eat red meat? do you supplement sublingually or with shots? b12 deficiency can do it. Also, as far as coffee goes: yeah, that's bad for you! ;)and emotional stress: well, that's always real bad for you too :( try and find ways to alleviate/cope/balance/relieve that as best you can, especially trying to recover from any illness, especially IBD Identifying that you are experiencing at least some denial is very important. i've been there with some health problems. I can tell you this, learning the darn hard way: The faster and better you are able to break out of denial and start dealing with total reality, the real better. I find a good tool for that is pretending my situation is actually someone elses, maybe a loved one or friend, and I start thinking about what is going on/real for that person (if that person were having my circumstances). Clears up my perspective real fast. I'm better at not denying other people's problems and situations, and better at helping/advocating for them. What would you do if you were your friend? Best wishes I am very new to all of this and quite honostly still in some level of denial. So many of you have written about the negative experiences you have had with the Medical world, of which I am not inclinded to trust. In all honesty how much has the Western Medical world helped you. Every time I turn, some doctor is telling me I must get a colonoscopy. If I don't want to go on meds and I don't want to treat it with their solutions why? Based on my sypmtoms I know I have IBD of some sort likely colitis. I plan to stick to the SCD as diligently as I can and learn from you all. I do not drink alcohol although I have in the past, but have abstained for the last 3 years. My diet has been rich in organic fruits and vegtables for several years and low in all the bad stuff. Obvioulsy, I have been trying to figure out what the heck has happened to give me all these problems over the past 2 months. Two culprits: 1. coffee consumption 2. emotional stress and physical stress as an athlete. If anyone can share his or her expierience on the above I would be very grateful. Guest guest
,You might have adrenal fatigue in addition to IBD -- adrenals produce the body's steroids including cortisol. These are really important and many other chemical/hormonal balances can be disturbed when the adrenals are tired. For example, cortisol is needed to get thyroid chemicals into the body's cells. The thyroid controls the metabolism of the body. You notice it in fatigue, feeling cold, fat storage, dry skin, among other things when it isn't in good working condition. The steroids also help regulate inflammation in the body. If you have been over consuming coffee (caffeine causes an adrenaline release from the adrenal glands), you are stressing your adrenal glands. If you are under stress -- whether mental or physical -- without properly nourishing your body -- through good food with enough good fats and proteins, liquids, salts, vitamins, and minerals, and rest -- you will find yourself depleted and your body in a compromised and merely coping state. Most of us are living this way, but it definitely makes a bad situation (IBD) worse.AmeliaTo: BTVC-SCD Sent: Mon, May 3, 2010 8:04:24 PMSubject: Acceptance- choices- coffee I am very new to all of this and quite honostly still in some level of denial. Guest guest
I could never drink coffee or wine without getting really ill. I could drink straight liquor better than wine or sweet drinks. This was pre-CD so I don't even try now. One problem is that right now you sound stable enough you can try the SCD and deal with things as they come up. But say, you have these symptoms and they are workable. G-d forbid some major traumatic event comes up or emotional upset suddenly you are flaring, not maintaining any food either way (sorry) and you end up in the ER. Then you'll be forced into a situation that probably won't be ideal. Either the timing or your job, family, etc. That's kind of what happened to me. I got sick 1/15/02, ended up in the ER 1/18/02 and it was no notice, no planning. I had three pets that had never been boarded, a job with a boss always flying here and there. Talk about a mess. My mom tried to help and the little cat ran out the door on her ;-). I ended up losing all three pets because they got ill while boarded. 14 yo lhasa, two 8yo cats (brother/sister). Within four months,I lost my job (got rehired 3 more times before they fired me for the final time). TMI but do it while you can on your time. Get out of denial fast and take care of it. Whatever the outcome, you'll know what you are dealing with and take steps to start healing. No years wasted ;-). Denial is good sometimes like when someone is rude or you shouldn't have eaten that extra 'whatever' but now is not a good time for it. I wish someone had told me some things 'in the beginning' and maybe I would have had everything arranged in case something happened.
