Guest guest
Hi everyone, Madison is sick again probably just the stomach bug but she hasn't eaten in 24 hours and everything she's drinks comes back up. theres no way we'll be able to put her on the pump tonight so thats probably a hospital visit in the making. So far her sugar has been good becuase we found this medicine for nausea and vomiting it's in the little tummies group of meds. well it causes an increase in sugar so if we keep giving it to her it keeps the vomiting limited and her sugar hasn't gone lower than 62. Are next problem is she can't gain weight now matter what we try she's been 18 lbs for over a year but with the GHT she keeps growing taller so now she looks so sick it's like all bones. My husband was freaking out tonight because of her weight. she fits in a 2T in lenght but she's 6-9months in the waist. well any ideas would be great chrissy mom of 4 louis 5 maddy 3 RSS shane 1 ryan 6 months
Guest guest
Hey Chrissy, I don't know if you have ketostix, but I would be testing for ketones, and if they are present, I would take her to the hospital, especially because she's so thin. Dehydration and hypo-g are really big problems for our skinny kids. I would have them put her on a D10 IV, for at least 24 hours of gut rest, and then, try restarting her feeds at a very slow rate. Just my opinion, hope this helps! Pat (g-ma to , RSS, 3 yrs old, 23.5# (10.7kg), 32.8 " (83.3cm), G-Tube)
Guest guest
Chrissy So sorry to hear Maddy's not feeling well. Whenever Pippin is sick with a belly bug and not tolerating her feeds...(on the pump) we always just use 100% pedilyte (no formula) at the same rate we would use during her overnight feeds...It gives her belly a bit of a rest. We test her blood sugar & ketones during this and will use the glucose gel if needed. I just suck the gel into a syringe and then put it through her tube. Kinda messy & sticky but w/ lots of pedilyte flushes, it goes down..or in. Then when she's feeling better we go to 75/25. 75% pedylite and 25% formula then 50/50 then 25/75 then to normal 100% formuala. She's been on 50/50 for more than a day with the flu with no low blood sugar problems. But everyone is different. I hope I'm making sense?!?!! This 'system' has kept her out of the hospital a few times. Hope this helps and I hope she gets better soon! Guest guest
Jodi, I don't think it's the flu cause she doesn't have any other symptoms but has c-Diff so now i think she might have it too but we all know how bad these kids get the GI viruses. Lou said last night Dr. H is gonna have a fit when she see's her cause she's all skin and bones but maybe thats what we need is for her to get pissed maybe things will get taken care of then THanks so much, chrissy ps they better get well by next week!!! Guest guest
hey chrissy!! i am so sorry to hear that maddie is sick again!! do you think it is the flu, i know that is going around again. my friends daughter just went to the dr. for it and they have some new medicine they can give them if they catch it within 48hrs it is suppose to minimize the effects of flu so they recover faster, maybe you should see if you can get that for maddie. as far as her weight you will see dr h of wed. and you know she is probably going to stop the ght, and hopefully start the periactin so she can do her catch up growth. if you nedd to chat give me a call!! jodie c
