Guest guest
Hi Please don't take the helmet off. I remember my son did this too - and my husband and I also lost some sleep for a few days... but then we realized that he was strong and that he was going to sleep however he wanted to sleep. I think for him it was just more comfortable to sleep on his stomach with the helmet on. My son was the exact same age as yours when he started wearing his helmet - he has been in it for 11 weeks now. He eventually stopped sleeping face down and started turning his head to the side. He is a thumb sucker and quickly learned he couldn't suck his thumb face down. Does Sebastian use a pacifier? You might try gently turning his head and by giving him a pacifier. Hang in there! Don't give up on the helmet! Karith Mom to Ethan (STARband / 11 weeks) > From: Papale Battista <b.babies@...> > Subject: Help! Guest guest
I use the angelcare movement monitor. It detects movement in the crib. I love it and it only rarely goes off if he gets to close to the edge of the crib. I still check him of course but it gives me the extra peace of mind that I needed. Do not forget the board for under the crib, we got it from home depot. Good luck with the new helmet! http://www.walmart.com/search/search-ng.do?search_constraint=0 & ic=48_0 & search_query=angelcare+movement+monitor & Find.x=16 & Find.y=13 , mom to gavin starband 3 months From: Papale Battista <b.babies@...>Subject: Help! Guest guest
I agree with trying to turn his head once he's sleeping. It'll probably just take him a bit to realize he can turn his head to the side.... I think rolling him back will just make him want to go back into the same position. My daughter did this for a little bit and we turned her head and she started sleeping on her stomach with her head turned. Guest guest
My son started sleeping on his tummy as soon as he had mastered rolling over. If your son has aquired this skill, then I think you will be fine. You might want to keep his crib in your room for a week. Also Co-sleeping cuts down the rate of SIDS,but you may not want to start something like that this late in the game. I did co sleeping until my son was three months old. In some ways I wish I had done it longer, I think that I may have even avoided the plagio had I stuck with Co-sleeping. I would like to end with this thought - I think the back to sleep campaign has us so wrapped up in back sleeping that we forget it is natural for babies to roll over and sleep on thier tummies. I think it is perfectly fine, just make sure there are no blankets or stuffed animals. Hi all, (new mom to group) My son Sebastian has started wearing his helmet this week, He seem fine with it. Guest guest
Hi: My was trying hard to get to her belly and right after she got her helmet at 5 1/2 mos she succeded. I was worried the first few nights too but as i was told by so many other mothers; once they can roll on thier own they are strong enough to " get out of trouble " . I still check on her a couple of times a night and I am glad she sucks her fingers and has the helmet because she always has some space between her face and the mattress. I still put her down on her back but at 7 months old now she turns right over and sticks her little butt in the air. I also still try and turn her head if I check on her in the middle of the night but again she does what she wants and remember most of us and even up to when my nieces were born parents were told to put them on thier bellies. Personally, and I have no studies to back this up, I think that taking all the blankets and bumpers and quilts etc out of babies' cribs probably has been as big a help as back sleeping. I would say don't worry but I do even still now and again. but babies also have minds of thier own and we can do all the right things but sometimes they prevail. Good luck and please don't take the helmet off at night. My mom always says that babies grwow when they sleep and that growing is what we need to graduate!
