I've been told that they will CANCEL my surgery if I've been smoking in the two months prior. How much is too much and how they figure this out is open to debate. However, having gone through two previous general anesthesia surgeries while a smoker, I can vouch for the fact that if you smoke (like I do), you WILL feel much better and DO much better post-op if you quit beforehand. This is why I'm quitting for the DS. p.s. For my gallbladder surgery last year, the surgeon said, " You know you should quit, right? " and I said, winking " No, I didn't know that. " Then he said, " Okay...just checking. " And that was it for the Lecture. -maria
