( Previous post: So, most of my friends were like me. When I brought

up WLS, I got

practically attacked for even thinking about it. " WHat?? " they

exclaimed.. " Botch your body up? Take a perfectly functioning body

and

screw around with it?? Love yourselfl!! Don't let them DO that to

you!!

YOu're Ok like you are).

First off, you are not Okay as you are. Your body is NOT functioning

normally, Secondly, don't doctors " botch up " your body up when they

do bypass surgery, knee replacement surgery, back surgery, eye

surgery, etc. Aren't doctors messing with " nature " when they

prescribe the plethora of medications to treat diseases associated

with obesity like, diabetes, GERD, back pain, knee pain, sleep apnea,

hypertension, high blood pressure, PCOS, lipid abnormalities, etc.

Why is it okay to " botch " up your body treating the co-morbidities of

MO, but not when you are treating the MO itself? Don't pay any

attention to these people, they are speaking in ignorance. And its

damn hard to " love yourself " when society, including doctors and

other medical professionals, constantly chastise you for letting

yourself get so far out of control. Face it, MO people are never

going to be accepted as they are. It's the only discrimination that

still politically correct to tease about. I was watching my 8 year

old son's soccer game the other day and there was a little fat boy on

the team and the parents on the sideline made cracks about that poor

little kid throughout the whole game. The kid couldn't hear them,

but I could and I was seething. I wanted so much to say something,

but kept my mouth shut. They were say things like, " that kid never

misses a meal " and " watch out for that kid, he only outweighs you by

50 lbs. " etc. I thought to myself, they would never make a crack

about the skinny kids, or the mexican kids, like " watch out for those

hispanic kids, you know they are good soccer players " . They wouldn't

dream of it because its not " politically correct " , but its okay to

tease the fat kid. It just makes me absolutely livid and reinforces

my belief that " fat " people will NEVER be accepted as they are. If

you can get this surgery, don't pass up the opportunity because of

what people tell you. They just don't understand.
