I just moved Liam to one as he just reached 32 lbs..... You can get ones that are a booster seat and a regular car seat, so they look like the big girl seats but would still use the 5 point harness... Guest guest
Hi Amy, We went through this with moving from rear to front facing car seats and again in moving from car seat to booster. We moved (non RSS) into a booster seat in the fall of 2004. She is currently 43 pounds. (RSS) was asking to move into a booster seat as well. We finally moved him a week ago. He is currently 32 pounds and 38 inches. They are 5 year old twins (2/4/00). Hope this helps, Judith, Steve, (RSS) and (non RSS)
Guest guest
HI I wish i had more info but we also have na in a car seat at 27lbs. She takes the school bus to school and wants one of the seats the others have. I thought about trying it but haven't yet. Hope some one has good insight. Abby is 4 1/2 (will be 5 in July) and as of yesterday is weighing 21 pounds (lost 3 1/2 pounds from the stomach flu twice in five weeks). She is now going with friends to church or with other moms who are helping me out while on semi-bed rest. Abby is seeing all of her friends in booster seats wearing a 'big people' seat belt. She is asking why she cannot do this yet. We have explained to her why she cannot but now her little brother is transitioning into the 'big people' seat belt so she really is questioning why she cannot. At what age and weight did you all place your child in a booster seat with a 'big people' seat belt? I appreciate any insight on this matter. Thanks, Amy (mom to Abby-RSS, GH, periactin; Tyler-nonRSS, 3 yrs; baby boy due in July)
Guest guest
hi amy!! well christopher is in a booster but using the 5 point harness still. he is 4 and 27lbs 6oz and 36 1/4 " they need to be atleast 30lbs i believe before they do it with just the belt, plus they have to be the right height belt will cut acroos their neck. i have tried it with just the belt and it just isnt safe enough if we were ever in an accident like that he would definitely get hurt. i dont have any advice on what you should tell her because johnathon is still in the same type of seat so there is no fighting yet. good luck!!! jodie c
Guest guest
i have three kids two of wich are now in big peples seat belt in the bouster. i just moved my 41/2 year old but she is very big 45lb and 3'7 " . my almost 3 year old is in the five point harrness. he 29 and 2'10 " . i think he might be there a wile. now for my SGA child he is in a big people seat belt in a bouster at 8 years old but i just put him there say 1 1/2 years ago. also in my state we have a law that states your child has to be in a car seat until they are 8 i am kinda where you are at this point the law sayes i could move him in the car without any carseat but i don't think he is heavy or tall enough to fit proprly. i am happy to say for now he does not ? this but i am sure he will be doing so soon cara nickolfamily wrote: I need some input on the whole car seat subject. Guest guest
Hi at age 5 and 30 pounds is still in her car seat. The highest level for the straps are still above her shoulders which I was told is how it should be. In NJ most of the fire departments and police departments have people trained in car seats. They make sure they are securely in the car and that the straps are positioned properly. They advise that the highest level of the straps should come down over the shoulder, not from behind (like the shoulder blade) and over theshoulder. 's car seat is a Britax Turnabout and she is still within the weight limit. Maybe you can check with your municipality or surrounding municipalities and take the kids. Maybe if Abby hears it from the policeman or fireman that she cannot be in the booster, it might help.
