Stefani,

It sounds like you are enrolled in an excellent program! I'm glad for you. I know what kind of work is involved (believe me I know lol) but in the long run it can only do us good.

It's interesting that they transition you to doing the program at home. That's something I've always been less than successful doing. I have used the treadmill religiously for years now but anything more complex than that I lose steam pretty quickly. I guess I need to be accountable to someone else.

Once I'm done with the 4 and a half week "Intensive" program I will transfer to the graduate program and I can continue on with what I'm doing now. I'll have less direct supervision but still the same support and someone checking my chart to make sure I'm keeping up and meeting my goals. It will also maintain my full access to the fitness center and all the facilities.

I hope you have good luck finding a pool where you can bring your oxygen. It can be a problem but it's worth the effort at least for me. I do love to swim and it's very relaxing after a tough work out!

Beth -Glad to hear the 'boot camp of rehab' is going well for you and yes, I see similar cases here in Utah. Kind of humbles you when you see the ones who are worse of at this stage and how they work so hard. It is inspirational. I am completing week 3, my halfway point. I have a 6 week program because I am part of an exercise study group. I have diet and OT components to mine as well. Just not as extensive as yours. Next week we start incorporating the home exercise. I still come in 3 days a week, but am expected to do 2 at home and the week after that, 3 at home. I will be ramping everything up as I adjust to each level. I will not start the weight component at home until my last week. Right now (next week) I will only be adding the aerobic home exercise. I talked to my pulmo from National Jewish and he said I am to consider that my prescription. DO NOT MISS A DAY... EXERCISE 6 DAYS A WEEK UPON COMPLETION. I am working up to the return

to the pool. I did work out in Denver in the pool and I will again here. Just have to find a facility that will let me bring in oxygen. A step I do not want to take until I am stronger on land with exercise. Not biting off more than I can chew until I am ready. I feel so much better, happier, healthier with exercise. Finding out some interesting oxygen needs as well. I need more oxygen for the aerobic exercise ( 6L ) than the weight resistance anaerobic ( less than or equal to 3L ) . They are encouraging me to take on the flexibility and stretch component myself. Light yoga and pilates. Slow movements, rhythmic breathing. I absolutely love the encouragement and the heightened sense of well-being.Stefani 61 year old UtahnILD 2/2006, NSIP (cellular) 6/2009, UIP 9/2009, Diabetes II 2/2006, Sleep Apnea 4/2009>> Well it's Friday and I'm finished with week 2 of "Intensive Pulmonary Rehab" at the Duke Center for Living here in Durham.
