, I have IPF and I have been following Pirfendone. I called the company. I know there are side effects that I do not understand. Pirfendone has been OKed for use in Japan, Korea and Tiawan under another name.

It only took my brother 22 months to die from IPF and the side effects from prednisone were frightening.

If I think Pirfendone will give me six months life out of a hospital, I will gladly try it. I am too old for lung transplant. I say go Intermune.

, Last night when I was thinking of what Bruce wrote, I wondered what might happen if Pirfendone didn't make money for Intermune. Would it discourage further research? After all, it does take lots of money and time to develop and research a new drug now, much more than in the past. Pirfendone may have a marginal benefit over all, but words that the media may use such as "breakthrough" and "miracle drug" may in the long run promote and reward mediocraty.
