Guest guest
Hi all, I just got my surgery date, November 19 with Dr Gagner at Mt Sinai. After reading all your helpful posts over the last few months, I have one question of the post-ops: I know what it's like to be sore due to previous surgeries, but what of the feeling when you get home of nausea, trouble hydrating yourself etc. Was that like having a terrible flu? Thank you to anyone who wants to answer. Sheryl
Guest guest
For me, the nausea felt like when I was pregnant. It got worse if I went too long without eating something. I found that saltine crackers helped a lot. I was also told to try b-complex vitamins and they also worked great for me. I still take them and I haven't had any nausea since I started them. This doesn't work for everyone, but it worked for me. As for getting in fluids, I kept water with me no matter where I was. I would try to sip some water every few minutes all day long. It wasn't that I felt too sick to drink, my stomach was sore and I didn't want to assault it with too much at once. After Congratulations. From what has been written about Mt. Sinai, most of your trials and tribulations will occur in the hospital and not at home. Be prepared for " slam, bam, thank you, ma'am, " and if you fare better than that, consider yourself very fortunate and atypical. >reading all your helpful posts over the last few months, I have one question >of the post-ops: >I know what it's like to be sore due to previous surgeries, but what of the >feeling when you get home of nausea, trouble hydrating yourself etc. Was that >like having a terrible flu? Not for me, but everybody was different. For me, it was more like a giant pain in the ass, that is, a major inconvenience, but not a tragedy! But, it gets better after the first few weeks; it truly does. And, usually by the 5th or 6th week, you stop feeling like a recovering surgical patient and more like a well person who might be just a slight bit off her top game. --Steve -- Steve Goldstein, age 61 Lap BPD/DS on May 2, 2001 Dr. Elariny, INOVA Fairfax Hospital, Virginia Starting (05/02/01) BMI = 51 BMI on 10/13 = 40 (-71 lb.) Remember when we had the stomach flu or something, we wanted to lie very still and not move nor watch anything on tv with food? Well, its different after the surgery.,,I was nauseated from the heparin but was glued to the cooking channel on tv for several days lol you just dont feel like eating is about it.....I never vomitted and forced myself to eat something every hour and it helped a bit....wasnt easy though Hugs, Judie
