about their stocks, here is my note to them:

Nothing with " flavors " or " natural flavors " is SCD

legal.

Note the mention of corn not being an allergen in the amounts they use --

well, the STARCH is still there, and that is an issue. And I think you

might find some folks who are corn-sensitive to disagree with that

statement.

I'd kill for an SCD-legal broth, but this ain't one of them!

<grin> Those who have been on this list awhile know my standard

comment at this point: make your own! (Even if it is a pain in the

keister!)

Some cookbooks use a certain brand of stock they have deemed ok.  I do not recall the name.  From Marilyn's post, it wouldn't be legal.

I used to use a version of KB Chicken Stock which didn't list natural flavors, spices or anything.  It specifically listed honey, chicken, salt, etc.  I not recall which one that was--they have since switched up the labels and types.

Last time I bought a box, I had to toss an entire chicken, carrots, onions, etc. because it had a funny smell.  The chicken seemed ok, bay leaves (everything deconstructed!) and I decided something must have changed in their formulary because it was bad.  I love that stuff but due to price and throwing everything out that time, I don't bother with it.

Martha (for one) and several SCDer's have great stock recipes.  I just boil the chicken with a bay leaf, onions, etc.and strain it really well.  Freeze in portions in glass bowls, mason jars or sometimes freezer bags (saves room if you lay it down flat in the freezer).  I don't add salt because it makes it too salty later when I use it and re-salt it.
