The GAPS diet starts with meat broth, egg yolk, well cooked vegetables. Since I've been SCD for 9 years, naturally, I consider SCD best, although I did buy the GAPS book and read it. I think the GAPS book is better organized that BTVC; I think SCD is a better diet. That said, I came to SCD following emergency gallbladder surgery. I'd been inching into it for a couple of months. My husband, dear though he is, is NOT a cook. (Grilled bacon, a toasted cheese sandwich are about his limit.) I was in no condition to make soup, and in no condition to talk him through making soup. He's a Virgo engineer. So, I ate roasts, soft-boiled eggs with butter, peeled steamed zucchini with butter (and later with shredded cheese). I asked Elaine about it, and she said that the object of the intro diet is not to eat specific foods,ie, the cheese cake, but to eat easy to digest foods so as to clear the deck for healing to begin. (Note: not everyone can tolerate butter at the beginning, simply because the amount of fat is a problem for some people. In my case, the only time I've been ill with regards fat was when I was obliged to give it up for three days before my colonoscopy. THAT made me ill.) As far as I can see, what you are suggesting would work fine for an introductory diet for SCD, although you would need to dilute your fruit juice. And I recommend finding some kind of easy-to-digest vegetable that you can cook well to have with your protein, rather than depending on the juice for all of your carbs. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
