Guest guest
Beth I asked you to name the studies that proved that the food pyramid was faulty. I did not ask you to rewrite your research. After reading your very long message, I have found only two references that I would consider worthy of further reading. For the most part, what your references state is incorrect and in others the references are outdated. Beth I am also from Australia. I have sat here quietly while you have tried to discredit my previous advice from The Australian Heart Foundation with your claims that " what the National Heart Foundation states is not accurate " . I can't help but wonder if your preoccupation with the US food industry's 'profit driven motive' and the book " Life without Bread " seems to be clouding your understanding of what others are trying to say. I agree with Damien, I too am happy to wait 40 years, to see if your theories are proven correct. For the time being though, I will go with what is known. What is known and proven at this moment in time is: The best way to prevent heart disease developing, is to limit the intake of saturated and trans fats in a diet; and include exercise as part of the daily routine. Contrary to what you say, THERE is evidence to support this. Incidentantly Beth, your Longevity May '92 claims are incorrect. It is true that the average Australian daily fat consumption is much less that the US. But it is not true that our percentage of obese males is higher than the US, in fact our percentages are a LOT lower than the Longevity study suggests. ne Barrie (Cardiac Rehabilitation Co-coordinator)
