At least with Blue Shield the will still approve the DS, so I think

you will be OK once your switch is complete. Do you live within 35

miles of USC? Some HMO's won't let you join IPA's that are further

out.

I suggest you keep the appoinement with Dr. A and self pay (it is

expensive $400, but it will keep things rolling) and then as soon as

you get the new IPA, get a referal.

I think the DS is well worth it, but it is a personal decision. The

DS is more effective, though the RNY isn't terrible in that respect.

The side effects are different, and you have to decide yourself which

ones you can live with.
