Guest guest
Regarding Medicare policy. The reason for the non listing of Obesity as an illness, if Medicare had a listing as an illness for obesity Social Security would also have to have a listing covering Obesity as a reason for disability. Social Security changed the criteria for obesity to only cover the co-morbidities that are severe enough to be disabilites in their own right. Guest guest
I believe this medicare site is outdated. Medicare does go by the NIH now and does approve the surgery as long as the criteria is met....which is a BMI of 40 or greater or 35 with co morbs. My supplemental tried to go by this site with the arugments that medicare doesnt approve of it blah blah blah and guess what? Medicare overturned them becuz I met the criteria. Blue Cross also lied and said no surgeons in network EVER do the procedures as they were considered dangerous.......Im sure that medicare caught that lie! Trust me! They DO pay!!! and they have paid for many!! Judie
