Guest guest
hi jodi, it is good to hear from you. i am not sure if the bone age is necessary or not. our childrens hospital has kept up on avs. a year ago it showed it at 2yrs 6mon when he was 3, so his bone age has advanced two years. even though his body hasn't. they are going to check it again in a year. talk to ya later amy averys momma Jodi Rollison wrote: Hey all! I was just reading Amy's post and it hit me. I wonder if I should be checking 's bone age? I think he had one done LONG ago, but since we have only seen Dr. H twice now, once in NY and once at the Convention, it hasn't come up. What do you all think? Is this something I need to get done on him? He will be three years old on May 23. His Pulmonary Dr. is WONDERFUL, and has been very willing to talkk with Dr. H, but hasn't been able to get through to her. But, I am sure if I explained why he needsa to have it done, she would go for it and order the test for me. Please let me know what you all think. Guest guest
Jodi, It is usually done 1x year for the younger kids but not usually at all until they are starting GH. Then you have it done right before you start GH and annually on the anniversary of starting GH until adrenarche when Dr H starts doing it a little more often. For more info than that, you need to talk to someone with older kids then mine. Judith, Steve, (RSS) and (non RSS) 5 year old twins

Guest guest
Jodi, Yes, you definitely should be checking 's bone age. If you recall, 's course has been muh like 's. has had a bone age done every year since he was a year old. He was iniitally very delayed, but at age 4, his bone age started advancing. Other things were happening to him at that point too, but we did not " officially " know that he had RSS then. I have " officially " in quotes, because I started doing research on my own at that time, & I did think he had RSS, but I couldn't get any doctors to officially make the diagnosis. So, at age 4, went into adrenarche (but again I did not know what this was), and stayed like that, progressing for several years. If he was going to a doctor who knew he had RSS, he would have been put on someothing to stop the progression of adrenarche and started having his bone age done every 6 months. 's " official " diagnosis was not until he saw Dr. H for the first time in 7/2003. He was 9.75 years then, & by that time there was nothing I could do to fix the advancement in his bone age for all those years. Now, he gets his bone age done every 6 months & is on an aromatase inhibitor (Aromasin) to stop adrenarche as well as Lupron to stop puberty. I think there was another mom on here who said bone ages did not need to be done until the child starts growth hormone. I disagree with that. 's bone age started advancing at age 4. At that point, it was only 8 months over his chronological age. He didn't start growth hormone until he was 7.5 years old. By that time, his bone age had advanced by about 2.5 years above his chronological age. Bottom line - have a bone age done every year initially until advancement starts ('s started exceptionally early) ; then the bone age should be done every 6 months. Kim C. > Hey all!
