Guest guest
Hey Guys! It's been about two weeks since I last posted. I've been busy throwing Crosby's 1st birthday party. We had a big scare this past Sat. night. At midnight Crosby woke up crying as he often does so I made him a bottle and went into his room. When I picked him up he was curled up in the fetal postion, shaking crying/screaming as if scared or in pain in short wails, a little warm, and his whole body was stiff in that position. He would not straighten out. I thought he was just mad because it took a while for me to get to him. I tried to give him the bottle and he bit down hard on the nipple and his eyes rolled back in his head. I knew something was wrong and we decided to take him to the ER. While dashing around trying to get our other child up to go, I noticed that his hands were turning blue and he was grunting as if he wasn't getting enough oxygen. I called 911 because at that point I didn't want to risk the ride to the ER without help. The ER doctor said that he had a febrile seizure due to sudden onset of a fever (it was 99 at the house when the emt's got there and up to 104 by the time we got to the hosp.) The fever was caused by an ear infection that I didn't even know he had. This is the second time he's had an ear infection and neither time was I aware that he had one. He shows no clear signs (pulling at his ears, etc.) I wonder how long he's had it and if he's had others that I didn't know about. We are coming to convention and are seeing Dr. H. to hopefully get a diagnosis. Has anyone else had similar problems? I'm wondering if this is related to RSS in any way or if it is just a freak incidence.
Guest guest
, OMG i'm so sorry that you had to go through that how scary!! I'm an EMT and also a medical assistant. So i just wanted to let you know febrile seizures are common in children ( even healthy ones) The bad part is the children who have had a history of a febrile seizure will usually continue to have them when a high fever arises. So I would just be on the alert! You can ask you pediatrican for a RX for rectal valium if he insert this at the onset of the seizure it will take it away. You can check with your doc but I believe you may be able to insert this as early as the onset of a fever. Good luck and I hope everything works out.
