Guest guest
The only reason I am not telling at work is because I just got this job 5 months ago and I do not want to chance that they will think this is cosmetic sugery and I should wait until I am there a year, or not have that much time off at all. As it is, I turned in my written request for time off last Friday and have gotten no response yet, so I don't even know if they are going to be mad at me for asking for time off for gall bladder and other stuff.........I need my job so I can still earn money after I come back. I am asking for time off without pay, but my company is only about 10 people and they categorically state in their employee handbook that they do not have to take part in the Family Leave Act because they are under 50 employees. I do think they will not fire me because they seem to be nice, but who knows? If they do as a result of my surgery, then I will see what my legal choices are, but why should I push the chance of getting fired even more by saying I am having this surgery? Really, I will tell anyone who is MO if they ask me how am I losing so much weight. I have already told my friends (close) and family (close) and 2 of my MO friends are also going to get the DS. One MO friend told his work because he has worked there for 25 + years and this is covered in his ins. policy, so his co-wrokers are asking about it for their MO family members or themselves. So, I have shared what I know and it is already affecting others. But there is no one at my work who is MO, so none of them would understand. I believe I don't need any more stress than necessary, and if I can prevent some, I will, for my own good. Keep your fingers crossed I can get the time off work and be assured I can come back with a job. I made my decision to have this surgery in December because November thru March are traditionally slow times in the mortgage business and we have been so slow that I have feared getting laid off now anyway. I wanted to get the surgery while I have insurance and have insurance approval. No sense tempting fate. However, as soon as I turned in my request for time off, I got over-loaded with work because one co-worker has time off this week (and already took off 10 weeks to have a baby from June - August.) I was sure if I had not asked early enough, she would want Christmas week off, too and they would be expecting me to fill in for her. I wanted them to know I won't be there. So, if my co-worker (who can do no wrong in their eyes) does want Christmas off, it will be up to them now if they still want to give it to her. Oh, she only works 3 days a week anyway. But if they are angry I need the time off, well, sometimes one's life just has to take precidence over everything else, and if I lose my job, guess I'll have to just find another one. At least I will be thinner and have a better chance of getting one. Carole
