Guest guest
I am really confused now! I went Sun night for a sleep study. I already had a sleep study in 7/08, I have a CPAP already. In July of this year I went on o2. At that time I asked my Dr. if I needed to use o2 with my CPAP his answer was NO. I even asked again after some of you told me that I should be, again he said no. I just went to a new Dr. last week and I asked him if I should be using o2 with my CPAP and he say YES. Well I went for another sleep study, at a different place from last year. They started out the night without o2 or the CPAP, at 1:30 I got up to go to the bathroom. The tech told me that she didn't think that they were going to put the CPAP on at all. Well they didn't either all night. My question now is do I not need the o2 at night, or the CPAP? I called my Dr. yesterday to ask him, I was told that results wouldn't be back for 2 weeks and to use both until he gets the results. The thing that I really HATE about this disease is that two different Dr. will give two different treatments. Why can't Dr's get with the same program. Guest guest
Joann The only way to know is with an overnight oximeter or through a sleep study. Which comes first, CPAP decision or oxygen, is debatable. Problem is most sleep centers aren't tuned toward the multiple choice question: Nothing, Oxygen, CPAP, or both. They need the study to determine if apnea that requires the CPAP. They need the oxygen numbers to determine its needs. If you have apnea you need the CPAP and if your sats still drop below 90% you need the oxygen. Get the printouts yourself of the sleep study results too. The only way a doctor can decide is by reviewing the results of sleep studies and/or overnight oximeters. The study you just had should show some idea of whats needed. If CPAP is needed then there should be another night to set it properly. If oxygen is needed, then either with the second night of sleep study or through an overnight oximeter the quantity prescribed should be verified as doing the job. The doctors can only decide based on what the numbers show. > > I am really confused now! I went Sun night for a sleep study. I already had a sleep study in 7/08, I have a CPAP already.
