Stopping the diet, trying something new

My 15 year old son has been on SCD for UC since August of 2009. He improved

quite a bit at first, stopped losing weight, gained back to a normal weight for

his height (about 170 for 6 feet) and has maintained that weight. He has had

episodes of bleeding off and on for the whole time. I would really like to see

his bleeding stop completely.

We went to our naturopath for a follow-up to a stool test he had done in January

to test for parasites and bacteria. He has good levels of Lactobaccilus and a

couple of other beneficial bacteria, absolutely no yeast or " bad " bacteria. So

I'm wondering what good SCD will do for him if the point is to starve out the

bad bugs, when he doesn't even have any. The doctor and I decided to try him on

something new - a couple of inexpensive supplements and hopefully LDN, as soon

as she finishes researching it. We decided to take a break from SCD and see how

he does. I've been doing the diet with him and I'm excited to try some new

foods! We started out with a little rice last night and so far, no problems. I'm

not adding anything else until he's had it for a few days and we know he doesn't

have a bad reaction. I figure that he can come back to SCD if the supplements

and LDN don't work. The supplements aren't legal anyway, so he wouldn't really

be on SCD while trying them.

Thank you for the help that I've gotten here for the past several months! I

might be back if this doesn't work out.

Liz
