Maybe Dawn or Hull can explain it better - but some insurance companies will not cover BPD/DS but they will cover parts of it based on the code numbers used and the way the Dr. writes up what he is doing (not dishonesty - but stating it in terms they are more familiar with). Anyway, if you have followed this list at all you will know that the RNY is not " one " surgery, but many, depending on HOW the surgeon does it. And I guess the same is true for writing up the insurance codes. The RNY codes do stand for portions of our procedure. So, if you go saying BPD/DS they may just say no right off the bat, when if your surgeon asks for specific insurance codes, they may get approvals for all or part of the procedure. Dawn and both warned me not to say too much and I would be better off. So I acted like I would have acted about 8 months ago when I started researching this and didn't know there were different surgeries or different RNYs or different life-styles after.
