Guest guest
I wrote Kitchen Basics about their stocks, here is my note to them: I follow a diet called Specific Carbohydrate Diet for my Crohn's Disease and wondered if your chicken, beef, and vegetable stocks are legal for me. The only questionable ingredient that I can see is " chicken flavor " " Beef flavor " " natural flavor " . I see the natural flavor in the veg stock is made from corn so I cannot have that. I wondered what exactly is in the chicken and beef flavor...how do you arrive at the flavoring? I would LOVE to be able to use your product to make my life easier but need to know if they follow the " rules " of my diet. Thank you, Gramenz Their response to me was: Dear Sara, Thank you for your inquiry. The chicken and beef flavor are merely chicken and beef cooked with bones and spices to a very concentrated form then added to the less viscious stock to create a more bold flavor profile. In this way, we do not need to add additional salt, msg or other flavor enhancers. The corn is another issue; however, it may be one that would work out fine for you. Let me explain and then you can mention to your doctor. To be thorough, we have listed corn. Our supplier is cooking one part of the corn (I'm not sure which, but there are many such as husk, kernel, meat, skin, etc). At the end of cooking, there is no corn left. We have been told that we can remove it from the label as it possesses no allergenic issues. I hope this answers your questions. I wish you the best in management of your disease. This is a daunting task, but one in which you sound like you are in control of. Please let me know if you need additional information. Have a great week! Heidi Means Kitchen Basics, Inc.
