I know i should be doing this for health reasons, and don't get me wrond, I am, but for some reason i can't shake the feeling that looking good is so important to me. I am at the age where i want to get a boyfriend and eventually get married. I feel so guilty over wanting to look good taking such priority in my mind. Please someone, reassure me that i am not crazy. Thanks a million and God bless all of you. Love, Doreen V. >> Doreen - there is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to lose weight to look good, especially at your age. I wish I could have had this surgery at age 23. I am sure my life would have been completely different. I know that weight should not stand in one's way of accomplishment, but I also know that weight Does stand in the way...by taking away confidence and by the perceptions of others. Don't feel bad about wanting to look good. I am sure most of us have the same desires, even those who are doing this for health reasons primarily. The BPD/DS is best because you can lose 75-80% of your excess weight and keep it off. The RNY will only give you an average weight loss of 50% excess weight, which you can re-gain. Look in the archives - put RNY vs DS into the search engine and you will see all the many posts we have had examining the differences. I am sure when you read those, you will agree with those of us on this list, that the DS is the way to go. For everyone, but especially for someone like you with your whole life ahead of you. You will eventually be able to eat an average slim person's sized meal with the DS, but never will with the RNY. With the RNY, you will eat 1 tablespoon of food chewed into a pulp, and worry about blocking your stomah and have a pouch instead of a stomach. With DS, you maintain a working stomach and no stomah to get blocked. Carole pre-op Dr. Hess 12/18/
