Guest guest
I just opened a new bottle of alcohol to clean my son's helmet and it had a very different smell. When I compared the two bottles, the new one was ethyl alcohol (70% from Duane Reade). Are there any differences between the two (other than the smell, which does dissipate), or is either OK to clean the helmet?
Guest guest
I'm not sure of the difference, but I was told to ONLY use isopryl alcohol on the helmet.
Guest guest
I haven't heard of using ethyl alcohol, and not sure if it matters or not. -christine sydney, 3 yrs, starband grad > > I just opened a new bottle of alcohol to clean my son's helmet and it had a very different smell. Guest guest
I would not use ethyl alcohol. Here is what I found on a Britannica website: a member of a class of organic compounds that are given the general name alcohols; its molecular formula is C2H5OH. Ethyl alcohol is an important industrial chemical; it is used as a solvent, in the synthesis of other organic chemicals, and as an additive to automotive gasoline (forming a mixture known as a gasohol). Ethyl alcohol is also the intoxicating ingredient of many alcoholic beverages such as beer, wine, and distilled spirits. (It's also known as grain alcohol). The isopropyl alcohol is milder and also mixed with water. I'd stick with that.
