Guest guest
Hi , donating your own blood (autologous donation) is very common before surgery. I did it. The only insurance that I know of that pays for this is Medicare. It's not $400.00! It's something like $175-200. You shouldn't have to get any paperwork together. Usually you donate the blood at the hospital you're having surgery at, and the surgeons office faxes the paperwork to the blood bank. Surgeons usually want you to donate 1 pint, sometimes 2. If it's 2, you'll probably have to make 2 trips. Beth JEGoff1@... wrote: How many of you donated your own blood for your surgery???? Dr. Hess recommends this. I am having one heck of a time getting the paper work together that is needed to do this.....Has anyone one else had any problems doing this????? I was also told that it is going to cost me like $400 up front for them to do it. Can you turn this into your insurance company????? Just wonder...Thanks, E. I have not heard of anybody needing blood for the DS. Maybe, if there are serious complications during surgery. But, otherwise, I don't believe it is needed. Guest guest
My surgeon Dr. Macura suggests that you donate your own blood..The majority of his patients dont. I didn't it was something I was going to do but with all the rush never got a chance to do it. If I had, had more time I would have done. Fortunately I didnt need it. Dr. Macura says that its not mandatory but its nice in case of an emergency. Guest guest
I would highly recommend you donate blood for your surgery. I flew accross the country for the DS with Dr. Hess, so I could not donate my own blood, I ended up needing TWO blood transfusions. If you donate and not end up needing it ask Dr. Hess to put it back into you anyway. Teri > How many of you donated your own blood for your surgery???? Dr. Hess > recommends this.
