Guest guest
Hey Folks! Based on the recommendations of two doctors and one speech therapist, we are now going to put Connor on a g-tube for night time, catch up calorie feeding. Even on an upped dose of Periactin, Connor's calories kept decreasing. A good day was 900, but those were rare. A regular day is about 700. The G. I. doc feels that part of the problem is that Connor's lower jaw is off center with his upper one. I think this is called malocclusion. He isn't using his molars and demonstrates what is called a " munching pattern. " Food is not being properly chewed or digested. I'm sorry if this is gross, but just about anything Connor eats solid wise can be " seen " in his diaper the next day. So, green beans, french fries, bread, peanuts, popcorn, peas, etc, do not get digested. They just pass through and Connor is not getting the nutritional benefit from the food he does manage to put in his mouth. How early do we take our kids to the ortho facial specialist? I knew that was something down the road, with dental issues. I'm just not sure if there is something that can be done right now. How do I teach my son to chew when it's probably painful for him? The upper G.I is on the 14 here in Lynchburg and the peg insert surgery is on the 18th. While he's in there, he will check Connor's esophagus for damage from reflux and also check pancreatic levels for something..I'm not really sure. So, the wombat is getting a button soon and we will be asking many questions. I am so thankful that we got our E & D waiver in addition to the medicaid which will help with all this new equipment and stuff. Presently, the wombat is taking a sheet of stickers and is applying it to to my back as he has crawled up into the computer chair with me. I think I'm stuck (grin). Thank you all for the replys on pumps and canned nutrition. I'm not sure which pump my insurance company will pay for, but we have chosen Kindercal for his feeds. That's all for now.
