Guest guest
Something else to chew on... non-western med docs will claim that high cholesterol is not, in fact heredity. It's caused by an over-consumption of carbs (the ones we don't eat on this diet that leads to an imbalance of Omega-3 (good) and Omega-6s (bad). <note that that is an over-simplification> I have high cholesterol that my GP would attribute to hereditary factors. However, when I followed the advice of my integrative doctor and started cutting out the carbs and taking Omega-3 supplements, my cholesterol dropped down to a normal range! I am a believer. There is a great reference site from the NIH about EFAs (Essential Fatty Acids): http://efaeducation.nih.gov/ Just some more info to arm yourself with It's one of the reasons why I love SCD so much- it really promotes a sensible and healthy diet and, IMHO, the way we are supposed to eat. -Joanna SCD 9/2009, Crohn's 1992, 25mg prednisone
Guest guest
My cholesterol is horrible, but quite possibly thyroid related. My triglycerides, on the other hand, have improved immensely since starting SCD. They were over 160 pre-SCD. Several months later, it had dropped to 80 something. It was all those complex carbs that were the problem, not the fat!
