Guest guest
Roxanne, Thanks for the glimmer of hope! Not to be able to smell wonderful bread baking or a dangerous gas leak or burning food...it's the pits!!! Did the ENT do anything besides tell you that your sense of smell would return? Way back in March when I ended up in the hospital with the miserable acute bronchitis I was given mega doses of Antibiotics and Prednisone.  They stopped the infection and I got better.  My question is: Should I still have barely any sense of taste or smell? 7 months later? My doctors don't seem alarmed...I' m very frustrated.. .I can discern salt, pepper, vinegar as far as tastes go. My sense of smell is really dulled to almost nothing! Any ideas ? Guest guest
I went through many rounds of antibiotics for sinusitis. He wanted to do surgery, which I nixed as too radical without any guarantees.  I guess the infection went away and lo and behold, one day I could smell again!Good luck.Roxanne, 59, South Carolina 2006 Asthma/ PF 2008 PF/ Sarcoidosis/Gerd Lady Slipper Orchid From: Barbara McD <bamny (AT) yahoo (DOT) com> Subject: Re: new question To: Breathe-Support@ yahoogroups. com Date: Friday, October 2, 2009, 11:14 PM  : Not quite the same thing, but I lost my sense of smell to a sinus infection several years ago.  It's never come back, but really is not an issue in my life.  B   Barbara McD PF--Sept 08; Sjogren's--Apr 09; Reynaud's--seems like forever Beautiful Western NC    Attitude is everything.  From: Zion <ljz741 (AT) verizon (DOT) net> To: Breathe-Support@ yahoogroups. com Sent: Fri, October 2, 2009 7:54:38 PM Subject: new question  Hello there...Sara is on the mend..getting as active as ever!!!! is not so freaked out and we're getting less stressed I have a( totally unrelated to Sara) question... Guest guest
Roxanne, I too went through 3 different courses of antibiotics to get rid of the bronchitis after leaving the hospital. I lost the sense of smell and taste while I was still there. It didn't bother me then because so much was wrong. But after 7 months it's very disturbing. I'll call the ENT on Monday...he's at the same hospital so he'll be able to access the records. Maybe he'll have some suggestions. My PCP just said that time will take care of it! Meanwhile I'm not able to smell burning food or great food either! We live in a house with gas heat...what about a gas leak? Thanks again for your reply.
