Roxanne, Thanks for the glimmer of

hope!

Not to be able to smell wonderful  bread baking or a  dangerous gas

leak or

burning food...it's the pits!!!

Did the ENT do anything besides tell you that your sense of smell would

return?

new question

Hello there...Sara is

on the mend..getting as active as ever!!!!

is not so freaked out and we're getting less stressed

I have a( totally unrelated to Sara)  question...

Way back in March when I ended up in the hospital with the miserable

acute bronchitis

I was given mega doses of Antibiotics and Prednisone.   They stopped

the infection and I got better.

 My question is:

Should I still have barely any sense of taste or smell?  7 months later?

My doctors don't seem alarmed...I' m very frustrated.. .I can discern

salt, pepper, vinegar as far as tastes go.

My sense of smell is really dulled to almost nothing!

Any ideas ? What kind of specialist do I go to now?I'm thinking

neurology!

I went through many rounds of antibiotics for sinusitis. He wanted to do surgery, which I nixed as too radical without any guarantees.  I guess the infection went away and lo and behold, one day I could smell again!Good luck.Roxanne, 59, South Carolina

Roxanne,  I too went through 3

different  courses of antibiotics to get rid of the bronchitis

after leaving the hospital.  I lost the

sense of smell and taste while I was still there.

It didn't bother me then because so much was wrong.  But after 7 months

it's very disturbing.

I'll call the ENT on Monday...he's at the same hospital so he'll be

able to access the records.

Maybe he'll have some suggestions. My PCP just said that time will take

care of it!

Meanwhile I'm not able to smell burning food or great food either!

We live in a house with gas heat...what about a gas leak?

Thanks again for your reply.
