Guest guest
I asked Dr. Hess why would some surgeons use the epidural and others just use the morphine pump. Well, he said it may be because they are not used to doing the epidural and due to the size of some people, may find it more difficult. But, he said the reason most likely is the type of blood thinners used. He said when you go to him, you go in the hospital the day before and at 8pm they give you a shot of (some name) blood thinner, and they give you one shot everyday you are in the hospital. the reason for this is, it is EASIER to insert the epidural if the blood is thinner!! And I guess since some don't do this day before blood thinner thing, or don't use the same types he uses, that might be why they prefer the morphine pump. At least that was his speculation.
