Guest guest
Hi everyone, I haven't posted for a little while, so I thought I'd take a moment to update you on my son . About a month ago, we had him evaluated for ADD because of his work in school and behavior at home. He was not completing assignemnts, refusing to do home work, forgetting tasks/chores etc. Many of the things that a person with ADD would do. Monday we met with his pediatrician and learned he DOES NOT have ADD. YEAH !!! However, he does have WMD. No ! not Weapons of Mass Destruction, although you'd think he did if you saw our house. The doctor and I (mostly me) have concluded he has the more common form of WMD -- Writing Motivation Disorder. He hates any task associated with writing. Looks like his TV viewing will be going way, way, way down unless writing homework, school assignments and chores are completed on time and with little prompting. Teen Titans will be getting a rest. In other news, we had an IEP meeting yesterday. 's progress is excellent. As soon as he gets his front teeth, he may no longer need speech therapy. He still needs lots of OT and my wife needs a shrink (but that'a another story -- actually, a lot of other stories). Also the school informed us that they may drop him from his IEP and just provide services under a 504. While we are very glad he is doing well, we are not so pleased that they may discontinue his services under IDEA and instead move to the less comprhensive 504. I think there will be a lot more discussion on this next year. We shall see. I just love it when they say these things under their breath, at the end of the meeting as your getting up to leave. I'll keep you posted on any further developments, like the day actually cleans his room or picks up a toy to put it away. Ken M
